Mississippi Valley Equipment Technicians meeting

I attended an inaugural meeting of equipment technicians for the Mississippi Valley GCSA Tuesday, May 20. There were more than 30 equipment techs on hand. The purpose of the meeting was to provide a forum for networking and education.

Equipment Techs gather in St. Louis.
IGCEMA’s Stephen Tucker is on the left.
Boyd Montgomery of Toro offered education on Tier 4 equipment compliance, and Stephen Tucker of the IGEMA was also on hand. John Cunningham, CGCS from Bellerive CC in St. Louis, conducted a grassroots effort to get the event off the ground.

Equipment was also on display, provided by local distributors of Toro, John Deere and Jacobsen. Part of the education was for each attendee to answer five questions about the equipment. If they were unsure of their answers, they had to interact with the distributors to solve each problem.

The group is planning a fall event, and they hope to auction a trip to the 2015 GCSAA Education Conference and Golf Industry Show in San Antonio. IGCEMA has pledged a $350 travel allowance to help offset costs.

We will continue to track the progress this chapter is making. There is discussion to pilot equipment technician education and events to one chapter in each of our nine regions. More to come!
