Today is St. Patrick's Day. While there's not a drop of Irish in my blood, the calendar and the weather reminds me spring is here . . . well almost. I know many of you in the northern portion of the region are starting to see signs of thaw. Here in the southern portion of the Central Plains we are seeing dormant grass ready to break out.
It's been a great two months. I've enjoyed meeting members, chapters and providing information throughout the region. In addition, we had our conference and show in Orlando and our recently completed chapter leader/executive symposium in Lawrence. I've traveled to North and South Dakota, Iowa, Maryland and many parts between.
While it's nice to look back, we have plenty of items coming up, and I want to keep you informed.
First, you may have seen or heard information on our Government Relations/Ambassador program. This is a grassroots effort to recruit a dedicated group of members to serve and be engaged in GCSAA's government relations efforts. Those who serve will have the opportunity to learn about legislative and regulatory issues affecting the golf course management profession, stay informed of GCSAA's advocacy activities and participate in the association's efforts.
Field staff will continue to actively promote this effort at your chapter. The ultimate goal is to have one GCSAA member represent each member of congress. We are looking for volunteers within our Central Plains region. If you would like to participate, please respond to this post, or contact our office at (800) 472-7878. We would be happy to provide more information.
Rounds4Research is also kicking into high gear. The first auction will run during the U.S. Open Championship at Pinehurst (concluding June 15), and we are currently securing rounds and preparing for the first auction. We hope to build on last year's success, and we hope your chapter continues to participate. Please, tell your friends! The funds received go back to your chapter to support vital programs (scholarship, research, education, etc.). Take advantage of this crucial item in your toolbox!
There are also two programs I must mention -- deadlines are approaching! Please nominate your equipment manager for GCM's Most Valuable Technician Award. The deadline is March 31, and complete information can be found at gcsaa.org. In addition, chapter outreach grant applications are due April 15. This is a matching-grant program with the chapter and GCSAA. This is a great opportunity for your chapter to receive assistance for a program that promotes our members within the golf industry and to the public.
More information on both programs can be found at GCSAA.org. Feel free to contact GCSAA at (800) 472-7878 for assistance.
I look forward to seeing many of you in the near future!
